Procedure - Anaesthesia
Modern hair restoration surgery is a relatively painless procedure. In fact most patients are surprised at how little pain they experience, stating that it is a lot less distressing than going to their dentist. At Hattingen Hair Transplantation we try to minimize any discomfort by creating a calm and stressfree atmosphere. We recognize that there are two types of discomfort that our patients may feel, psychological and physical.
To reduce any psychological discomfort, the patient will be administered a mild oral sedative such as Valium. For the occasional patient who desires a deeper level of anaesthesia, twilight intravenous anaesthesia can be provided under the supervision of a certified anaesthesiologist. This type of anaesthesia is also known as conscious sedation, removing any psychological discomfort while the patient remains conscious and responsive to oral commands. The type of anaesthesia will be decided upon consultation with the doctor.
Physical discomfort is eliminated by using nerve blocks and local anaesthesia. Injection of the anaesthetic is done with ultra fine needles so as to minimize any pain. In fact this is usually the only part of the procedure when pain is experienced most patients describing it as a mild bee sting sensation. Afterwards there should be no more pain experienced throughout the rest of the procedure and our team is dedicated to ensure the patients comfort.
