Surgical Solutions - Hair Restoration Surgery
Hair Transplantation is based upon the fact that transplanted hair follicles (moved from their original location to another area) will behave as they did in their original site. Most people who lose the hair on the top of their scalp, retain relatively thick hair on the back and sides of their head. This hair is genetically destined to remain there for the rest of their lives. Hair transplantation is simply the transferring of this "permanent" hair from the "donor" area of the scalp (the back and sides) to another area in which hair has fallen out (due to heredity or some other more unusual cause). This transplanted hair begins to grow after a brief resting period of 4-6 months, and will continue to grow in its new location for the rest of your life.
Created about 50 years ago, the hair transplantation technique has evolved tremendously. Initially hair was transplanted in the form of punch grafts (cylinders of hair bearing skin containing 16 or more hairs), and the results obtained resembled "doll hair". Progressively the size of the grafts got smaller and over the next decades we saw the use of slot grafts, and slit grafts. About 20 years ago the technique evolved even further as more and more practitioners started using mini/micro grafts.

Because all these techniques cut the grafts to predetermined sizes (according to the surgeons wishes) without respect for the integrity of the follicular unit, the results of these procedures often looked artificial and made hair transplants visible even to the untrained eye.

In the past decade the advent of Follicular Unit Transplantation has revolutionized the hair restoration field, the results of using this technique providing a degree of naturalness unrivalled by any other restoration procedure.
Patients are no longer given the option of either accepting their hair loss or having an artificial looking head of hair. Today a dedicated and highly skilled staff performing Follicular Unit Transplantation can achieve results that look as good as your original hair. If you are experiencing hair loss and thought hair transplants were not for you, you may want to have another look! You will be pleasantly surprised.
